Jonathan Towney, clarinet

Jonathan Towne won the Artist’s International Competition in New York City as the clarinetist in the Kammer Woodwind Quintet, and as a result, performed two recitals in Carnegie Recital Hall. He holds a B.M. from Ithaca College and a M.M. from Indiana University where he was an Associate Instructor of clarinet. He currently performs with the Eastern CT Symphony Orchestra, CT Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, Waterbury Symphony Orchestra, Caspian Festival Orchestra in VT, and other groups in Eastern CT. He is a former Adjunct Professor of Music at the University of Rhode Island, where he taught Clarinet and is retired from the United States Coast Guard Band after a 30 year career. In 1989, he traveled with the Coast Guard Band to the former Soviet Union and performed on a ten day tour. He soloed with the Coast Guard Band on many occasions including at the prestigious Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic in Chicago. He is a member of the Prism Woodwind Trio with his wife, bassoonist Rebecca Noreen. They perform together often in chamber and orchestra concerts throughout New England.
