Sanga Yoon is a South Korean cellist and music educator based in Connecticut. She recently completed her Artist Diploma and Suzuki training at the Hartt School under Mihai Tetel and Blake Brasch, following her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with Terry King and Mihai Tetel. Inspired by her mom, an amateur cellist, Sanga has been playing cello for about 18 years. Her early musical education includes studying with Jeong Yoon Park, Marion Feldman, and Amy Kim at The New School.

Throughout her career, Sanga has served as a cellist with Con Brio Choral Society, Waterbury Chorale, Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, New Britain Symphony Orchestra, Beth el Temple Be Music & Arts, Norwalk Symphony Orchestra, and Connecticut Symphony Orchestra, the Foot in the Door Contemporary Music Ensemble, Hartt School Collegium, and Hartt Orchestra. She now serves as a principal cellist for Connecticut Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra.

Her past summers are filled with exciting and enriching musical experiences at festivals, including NYU SummerStrings Camp, Jujube & Lisma International Music Festival in South Korea, Monteux School & Music Festival, Orvieto Musica – Intensive Strings in Italy, and Wintergreen Music Festival LEAD Cooperative. Notably, she has performed as principal cellist at the Monteux School & Music Festival, featuring Suppé’s Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna, and as an assistant principal cellist at the Wintergreen festival orchestra. 

As a chamber musician, Sanga has collaborated with esteemed artists such as Miller Anton, Katie Lansdale, Rita Porfiris, Steve Larson, Mihai Tetel, Robert Black, Christopher Cooley, Anne Breeden-Ehmke, Christina Adams, Adrian Sylveen, and Brunilda Myftaraj. She also takes part in premiering and recording new chamber compositions, including Wen Wen van der Wende’s Adrift on Dying Clouds and June Violet Aino’s Delightful Dissension

Sanga has participated in masterclasses by David Finckel, Darrett Adkins, Wesley Baldwin, David Bjella, Micheal Reynold, Stephen Balderston, and Bjorn Randheim. She has also engaged in chamber masterclasses with Amos Yang, Attacca Quartet, Cuarteto Latinoamericano String Quartet, David Finckel, Handel and Haydn Society, Lions Gate Trio, Merz Trio, Trio Galan, and QuartetEs.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Sanga enjoys exploring other instruments like the viola and piano, and indulges in hobbies such as photography and gardening.
