Gregory Sheppard, bass-baritone has been heard in opera, concert and recital throughout the United States, Europe and in Canada. Mr. Sheppard has sung leading roles with Syracuse Opera, Central City Opera, New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera Western Opera Tour, Glimmerglass Opera, little OPERA theater new york, Virginia Opera, St. Petersburg Opera, Opera Memphis, Chattanooga Opera, Dayton Opera, Teatro Lirico D’ Europa, New Jersey Light Opera, Pennsylvania Opera, Tri-Cities Opera, MET Opera Education, Orlando Opera, and countless others. He has appeared as soloist with Little Orchestra Society, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Denver Symphony, Sioux City Symphony, Syracuse Symphony, Buffalo Philharmonic, American Symphony, Cayuga Chamber Orchestra, Illinois Symphony, New Haven Symphony. In Europe he has performed leading roles with Bienalle Festival (Germany), Savonlinna Opera (Finland), Vienna Festival (Austria) and Orchestra Solisti di Roma (Italy). Mr. Sheppard holds degrees in voice and opera performance from Syracuse University and New York University and received further training as apprentice artist with Glimmerglass, Sarasota, and Central City opera’s. His honors and awards include Metropolitan Opera National Council Finalist and study grant recipient, Friday Music Clubs Young Artists Award, Sullivan Foundation, Syracuse Opera Artists of the Year, SU Faculty Award, Jan Peerce Scholarship among others. This season he is heard with Festival of Music performing arias from Mozart’s Die Zauberflote, Tri-Cities Opera to open the company’s 75th season as Sarastro in Die Zauberflote, recital for the Onondaga Historical Association, a new staging of No Cowards in Our Band for Hudson Hall, recitals in Syracuse and St. Augustine and music directs Black Nativity by Langston Hughes. Mr. Sheppard curates, music directs and narrates a program he was chosen to present by MoMA titled An Evening of Gospel Music and Modern Art. Sheppard has taught on the faculties of Columbia University, New York University, The New School and is currently Doctoral Lecturer for John Jay College (CUNY) and is the artistic director of Festival of Music and Artistic Consultant for Verismo Opera.
