Wayne Arthur is a Belizean-American opera singer, actor and performance artist with a heart-felt intelligence, dedicated to telling new stories and re-imagining older ones. Wayne has collaborated with Jonathan González on the film Blues Time and the workshop of Lucifer Landing II at Abrons Art Center. Wayne has appeared in Anthony Davis’ X: The Life and Times of Malcolm X at the Metropolitan Opera, Detroit Opera and Seattle Opera. Wayne was also in the cast of Terence Blanchard’s Fire Shut up in my Bones at the Chicago Lyric Opera and Metropolitan Opera, which won a 2022 Grammy Award for Best Opera Recording. In 2022, Wayne was part of the production of Tyshawn Sorey’s Monochromatic Light: Afterlife at the Park Avenue Armory, under the direction of Peter Sellars. Wayne is the Third Prize and the Spirituals Award winner of the 2024 George Shirley Competition. On October 12th in Harlem, Wayne will be playing Cinque in Amistad, written by Anthony and Thulani Davis, co-produced by Connecticut Lyric Opera and Harlem Opera Theatre.
