Adrian Sylveen and the Virtuosi players to perform Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons

HARTFORD – As summer fades away and the beginning of fall is in the air, acclaimed conductor
and violinist Adrian Sylveen will celebrate the change of seasons with a performance
of Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons. Mr. Sylveen will lead players from the Connecticut
Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra in a performance of the beloved set of four concertos on Saturday,
September 20th. at 5:15 p.m., at St. Cyril and Methodius church in downtown Hartford.

Admission is free, with donations accepted.

Composed in 1725, The Four Seasons is among the most popular pieces in the classical music
repertoire, a set of four concertos written for solo violin, string quartet, and continuo, in which
each concerto depicts the season it is named after. For example, “Winter” is peppered with
silvery pizzicato notes in the high strings, perhaps calling to mind icy rain, whereas “Summer”
evokes a thunderstorm in its final movement. Sylveen and the Virtuosi players will bring The
Four Seasons to life in the beautiful acoustic space of St. Cyril and Methodius Church, just
down the street from the Charter Oak Center in Hartford.

Mr. Sylveen is well-known as the founder and conductor of the Connecticut Virtuosi
Chamber Orchestra, as well as Connecticut Lyric Opera. However, in addition to his conducting
activities, he is a highly regarded violinist. He graduated with distinction from the Paderewski
Music Academy in Poznan, Poland, and holds Master and post-Master degrees from the Yale
University School of Music. He has performed concerts and recitals in Poland, Switzerland,
Germany, former Soviet Union, and the United States. He is a winner of prizes and awards at
competitions in Poland and in the United States, and has participated in international festivals
such as Weimar, Lancut and others. Mr. Sylveen was awarded several prestigious scholarships
and awards, including “Primus Inter Pares” Award given by the President of the Republic of
Poland. He was awarded permanent US residence for “Extraordinary Abilities in the Arts”.
